Introduction to Using MailChimp with Drupal 7

Using MailChimp with Drupal 7
Series Sponsored by Mail Chimp
Email marketing is a proven way of increasing the traffic to your website.
And even better, it's a great opportunity to engage with your site's visitors
and get to learn a little bit more about what makes them tick.
And when it comes to email marketing,
MailChimp is one of the best tools out there to help make the process of managing a list easier.
Lucky for us, the Drupal MailChimp module makes integrating with the MailChimp service
from a Drupal-powered application a relatively easy task.
Anyway, I won't go into much detail here because we've got an entire video in this series
dedicated to the benefits of using MailChimp in conjunction with Drupal
for handling all of your email marketing needs.
Throughout this series, we'll be looking at the functionality provided by the MailChimp module
and how we can use it to do things like,
for example, provide ways for users of our site to subscribe to a mailing list,
manage their subscription preferences,
and even collect additional information about someone in Drupal
and then, synchronize that data with MailChimp,
allowing content creators to use that additional information about contacts
in order to slice and dice our mailing list.
also known as segmenting, in all kinds of different ways.
With our mailing list in place and full of subscribers,
we'll then be able to start sending out email campaigns.
But before you do that, I recommend taking the time to make a plan
figure out what you want to communicate to your list, and why.
With that in mind, we'll go over some best practices for email marketing campaigns
and make sure that before you do hit "Send", you're setting yourself up for success.
Then, you'll be ready to hit "Send" on your first campaign.
A task that can be accomplished either directly on the MailChimp website,
or via the Drupal MailChimp module.
One of my favorite things about MailChimp
is how easy it is to send emails that look really good and consistent across different devices.
In this series, we'll look at how you can create a new template in MailChimp
and the steps required to get your templates to show up as options
when sending email from the Drupal MailChimp Campaigns Module.
It's a little bit tricky, but totally worth the effort.
Our case study is the Anytown Ice Cream Shop,
which has three physical stores, and a website that provides its customers with info about those stores.
We'll create a mailing list for semi-regular updates, kind of like a newsletter,
and another that will allow people to get a Flavor of the Day update,
targeted to just the stores that they've listed on their profile.
To keep things easier for our employees,
we'll automate the process of sending the Flavor of the Day emails
using an RSS-based campaign.
We'll also look at collecting a customer's birthday so that we can send them Specials.
I'll refer back to this case study a few times throughout this series
in order to explain some concepts.
I'm going to assume that you've already got some basic Drupal administration knowledge.
Notably, how to download and install a module
and you're at least familiar with Drupal's UI for adding and editing fields,
because we'll be using that a lot.
Finally, if you want to take your learning further, look for the follow up questions
in the description for each tutorial.
These questions are presented to help you make sure you're understanding the material
and to encourage you to explore how what you've just learned
could apply to your specific use case.

At the other end of the pay scale, David Scales, a doctor at the Cambridge Health Alliance, points out that the current focus on training physicians for empathy misses ‘the glaring deficits in the work environment, which squelch the human empathy that doctors possess’. Facing an endless stream of patients, huge financial pressure to keep visits short, and 80-hour working weeks, doctors can find it impossible to be truly present with the particular person in pain sitting before them. As Bates found in her study of British care girls, Scales suggests looking at the tension between addressing people’s most pressing needs as quickly as possible within an overburdened system and really taking the time to care for them. Having some autonomy, being treated decently and not being overstressed all the time might be the biggest keys to being an effective emotional worker.

T here’s an enormous opportunity before us, as robots and algorithms push humans out of cognitive work. As a society, we could choose to put more resources into providing better staffing, higher pay and more time off for care workers who perform the most emotionally demanding work for the smallest wages. At the same time, we could transform other parts of the economy, helping police officers, post-office workers and the rest of us learn to really engage with the people in front of us.

This isn’t something our economic system, which judges the quality of jobs by their contribution to GDP, is set up to do. In fact, some economists worry that we haven’t done enough to improve the ‘productivity’ of service jobs such as caring for the elderly the way that we have in sectors such as car manufacturing. Emotional work will probably never be a good way to make money more efficiently. The real question is whether our society is willing to direct more resources toward it regardless.

Technology-driven efficiency has achieved wonderful things. It has brought people in developed countries an astonishingly rich standard of living, and freed most of us from the work of growing the food we eat or making the products we use. But applying the metric of efficiency to the expanding field of emotional labour misses a key promise offered by technological progress – that, with routine physical and cognitive work out of the way, the jobs of the future could be opportunities for people to genuinely care for each other.

CSS animations make it possible to animate transitions from one CSS style configuration to another. Animations consist of two components, a style describing the CSS animation and a set of keyframes that indicate the start and end states of the animation’s style, as well as possible intermediate waypoints.

CSS animations

There are three key advantages to CSS animations over traditional script-driven animation techniques:

To create a CSS animation sequence, you style the element you want to animate with the FOOTWEAR Lowtops amp; sneakers Airwalk YxcgGbwsn
property or its sub-properties. This lets you configure the timing, duration, and other details of how the animation sequence should progress. This does not configure the actual appearance of the animation, which is done using the at-rule as described in Mens BNY Sole Series Mens Club C 85 Suede Sneakers Reebok oKPhL
below.

The sub-properties of the property are:

Once you’ve configured the animation’s timing, you need to define the appearance of the animation. This is done by establishing two or more keyframes using the at-rule. Each keyframe describes how the animated element should render at a given time during the animation sequence.

Since the timing of the animation is defined in the CSS style that configures the animation, keyframes use a to indicate the time during the animation sequence at which they take place. 0% indicates the first moment of the animation sequence, while 100% indicates the final state of the animation. Because these two times are so important, they have special aliases: and . Both are optional. If / or / is not specified, the browser starts or finishes the animation using the computed values of all attributes.

You can optionally include additional keyframes that describe intermediate steps between the start and end of the animation.

Note: The examples here don’t use any prefix on the animation CSS properties. WebKit-based browsers and older versions of the other browsers may need prefixes; the live examples you can click to see in your browser also include the prefixed versions.
